Hasbro Transformers Q&A – December 2010 Answers

You asked and Hasbro answered! Hit the jump to see the answers from Hasbro and Hunter PR! Why does the Transformers brand continue to use “Scout” and “Voyager” for size class terminology? The terms don’t seem to make a lot of sense on their own. Looking at upcoming waves, we see a yellow-carded wave containing toys such as Laser Prime, Wreck-Gar and Perceptor, which we thought would be in red-carded Generations. Are the two sub-lines becoming more catch-all, more “Hey, let’s just release these awesome toys, and we don’t care what color the card is?” Which we don’t mind, to

Hasbro Transformers Q&A – November 2010 Answers

You asked and Hasbro answered! Hit the jump to see the answers from Hasbro and Hunter PR! Is there an industry term for the various catalogs, flyers, DVDs, comics and other materials sometimes packaged in with Transformers figures?  (All the stuff that isn’t the instruction sheet, effectively.) The “Cyber Missions” online videos have depicted Power Core Combiner characters, such as Smolder and Chopster, alongside characters from the live-action movies.  Should we take this as evidence that Power Core Combiners are in the same continuity as the movies, or are “Cyber Missions” a separate continuity which happens to have a lot

Hasbro Transformers Q&A – August 2010 Answers

You asked and Hasbro answered! Hit the jump to see the answers from Hasbro and Hunter PR! The Transformers: Hall of Fame entries showed that Hasbro considers many incarnations of Optimus, Megatron, Bumblebee and Starscream to be the same character, or at least the same character archetype. We’re wondering, though — since Megatron has been inducted into the Hall of Fame, does this mean that Galvatron is already in as well, or would he have to be voted in by fans? Most Transformers stories show Galvatron to be the upgraded form of Megatron, but some fans consider Galvatron to be

From the ASM Archives – OTFCC 2003 and 2004 Pictures

In an effort to bring over the content of ASM’s old site alteredstatesmag.com, we’re starting to (slowly) load up our gallery with pictures of old. These pictures haven’t been seen in years, as the gallery functionality on our old site was inadvertently corrupted after a server move. So, let’s walk down memory lane with these two galleries: OTFCC 2003, the Official Transformers Collector’s Convention held at the Hyatt in Rosemont, IL. Alternators and Energon were the big toylines, but we were starting to see the initial entries of Universe as well. Also included were the first looks at the OTFCC

In honor of Bob Budiansky’s induction into the Transformers Hall of Fame at BotCon last week, we’re reposting one of the first interviews Bob ever conducted with the online fandom.  This originally appeared in ASM on July 26, 2004.  This interview was conducted by Matthew Karpowich and Andrew Sorohan. ASM: You started your comics career in the mid-70s with a background in engineering. Given that, who were your influences? Artistically? Writing-wise? Bob Budiansky:While I was in college in the early 70s, I was reintroduced to comics by a couple of friends. (I had stopped collecting comics years earlier.) So, at
