Twinstrike is an update of the old Generation 1 Transformer “Sinnertwin”. (Gee, wonder why they changed that name?) The original toy was a yellow and teal two-headed dragon beast, and this one is no exception. How good is the new one? Read on!
I remember buying Sinnertwin as a kid for one reason, and one reason only – he’s the only toy at whatever store I was at (possibly Kohl’s) that had a Soundwave decoy. I didn’t have a Soundwave toy, but darn it, I was going to have some version of Soundwave, so when I saw him as a decoy on Sinnertwin, that’s who I bought. (Or who my parents bought. Whatever.) I never got any of the other Terrorcons, even though they would have formed Abominus. Nope, it was just Sinnertwin. Even though I bought him for the decoy, though, I really liked playing with his toy, so Sinnertwin holds a special place in my heart.
When I saw they were making a new version of him called Twinstrike, I knew I’d be buying him. And you know what? I love him. He’s got one of the best qualities a toy can have, an intangible quality I call “fiddle factor”. In other words, you can just pick up this toy and play with him, and it’s awesome.
As mentioned, his beast mode is a two-headed dragon, where each neck is on a separate ball-joint. This allows you to have Twinstrike looking at two different enemies (although let’s hope his two heads eventually agree on a specific target). His tail flips up and down thanks to his transformation, and you can plus his “piston hammer” weapon onto his back.
When you transform him to robot mode, his heads become his hands and arms, and his rear legs become his lower legs. However, there’s some nifty bits where you pull out and swivel his thighs down to cover his shins, and his front beast legs rotate around to his back. He can then hold his piston hammer, ready to bash in the head of his foe.
Twinstrike is small, but he’s awesome. I really like this update, and it makes me want to get the rest of the updated Terrorcons so I can finally have an Abominus.
