C2E2 Guest Update – David Newell and John Barrowman!

Holy crap. I thought that C2E2 was going to be a great show.

Now I know it’s going to be a FANTASTIC show! A couple of weeks ago, C2E2 announced that David Newell would be coming. Who’s David Newell?

Mr. “Speedy Delivery” himself, Mr. McFeely from “Mister Rogers Neighborhood”!

Now, I am a HUGE Mister Rogers fan. I have been since I watched the show religiously as a kid for years. I happened to be out of work at the time his last show was on the air in 2001 and I sat down and watched it. I heard him speak at my alma mater one year. And I was devastated when he died, and I wrote this tribute to him. I wish I had been able to meet him in person, but alas I never will.

However, meeting David Newell will be a special treat as well. I hope I don’t spout gibberish when I try to explain how much Mister Rogers meant to me as a child and still means to people today.

Today, though, C2E2 announced a huge blockbuster guest – John Barrowman! Wow, Captain Jack Harkness from “Torchwood” and “Doctor Who” is coming to Chicago! Holy freakin’ crap!

I became a “Doctor Who” fan thanks to my wife, and I fell in love with Captain Jack during the Ninth Doctor era, and then I absolutely loved him in “Torchwood”. I still feel “Torchwood: Children of Earth” showcases some of the best television writing I’ve ever experienced. And although “Torchwood: Miracle Day” was not quite as good, I do hope that there’s at least one more Captain Jack story coming to TV.

I hope I get to shake John’s hand and get his autograph. This is a huge boon for C2E2. Massive kudos to them!

So, ASM will be there in some fashion. Will we see you there?
