… Landshark! It’s based on Landmine from the Energon line, a toy I think I played with once or twice before needing to put him away because of space reasons. (Aside: I can’t wait to get a house.) If I remember correctly, it was a nifty toy. As for Landshark, I like it. If you want a comparison to the actual animal, I can see the angular lines to give it a shark look. I love the blue plastic used in the visor as it complements the green and orange. As for the motto… seems kind of meta, actually. Not
Continue readingIGN Says Inara’s Gonna Be A Lizard
IGN TV has posted a report that Morena Baccarin is going to appear in the remake of the TV series V. Baccarin, known to most sci-fi fans as Inara from “Firefly” and Serenity, will play the role of “Anna”, the leader of the aliens (or “Visitors”), described by the Hollywood Reporter as “remarkably knowledgeable about human culture and media manipulation.” I was already going to watch the new V, as I was a fan of the original mini-series, but with Morena, I’m totally sold on watching it. It better not suck.
Continue readingLike Many, I Watched “Watchmen”
So, I saw Watchmen on Saturday, after weeks of anticipation. I should point out that I’ve not been a fan of the graphic novel for years and years. In fact, I only finished reading it for the first time about two months ago. Yes, it’s been out for over twenty years, but I’d not read it. Surprisingly, I had not been spoiled on any plot point in those twenty years, either. So I went into the book with a clean perspective. Of course, I loved the graphic novel. I had known that it was a very layered story, with depth
Continue readingPrice Drop on Transformers Deluxe Figures
I just received a Target catalog in the mail. On page 34, they show Transformers Animated Blurr next to the words “TRANSFORMERS DELUXE FIGURE”. The price is indicated as a Temporary Price Cut of $8.99. The fine print on the back of the catalog says the prices are good March 3 through April 5, 2009. Seems like a good time to pick up some more Deluxe TFs. The blurb mentions “straight from the animated series”, which might indicate it’s for Animated toys only; perhaps Universe will get in on the sale prices as well. They also show two LEGO toys
Continue reading“I Am Optimus Prime” Comic Coming from IDW
Chris Ryall, IDW’s Editor in Chief, has updated his blog with a sneak peek at “I Am Optimus Prime”, a new Transformers comic book/picture book geared for 4-7 year olds. The art is styled after the Robot Heroes line of mini figures, and it looks awfully cute. Of course, older jaded fans will see that title and think of that horrendous G2 Optimus Prime sound box…
Continue readingAn Extremely Uncomfortable Star Wars Pack
The folks at EndorExpress.net posted a picture of a new set of Star Wars figures called the “Jedi Training Academy 5 Pack”. This set will be sold at upcoming Star Wars Weekends at Disney World. What’s so uncomfortable about it? It features a Jedi, three younglings… and Darth Vader. Those younglings are so doomed.
Continue readingBotCon 09 Toy 2 – Scourge
Scourge has been revealed at BotCon.com — and he’s a remold of Cybertron Sideways. My initial reaction was “Ugh, why?” But then I looked more closely. It… works. It does. The rounded nose of Sideways’ vehicle mode is reminiscent of Scourge’s G1 vehicle mode. And while I don’t understand why his beard is now white, Scourge’s new head is an interesting varation of the G1 character’s noggin. I think I like this one better than Kup. I did FAX in my order for a set when the registration forms were put online; let’s hope I got in.

Continue readingNo Ghostbusters Props from Master Replicas
According to a post from Toy News International, MasterReplicas will not be making any props from the Ghostbusters movies. Their original plans were to make a 1:1 scale Ghost Trap and a 1:1 scale Proton Pack, but according to CSTom on MR’s Ghostbuster forums, we cannot afford to give Ghostbusters prop replicas the justice and treatment they deserve and I apologize for any frustration or disappointment this will cause any fans. A shame; anything that would put out more Ghostbusters product would have been cool.
Continue readingBotCon ’09 – Kup Revealed
So, BotCon.com revealed the first of the toys today, namely Kup. Wow. He sure is blue, although the image looks heavily processed and probably not representative of the final product. I hope it’s not, as it doesn’t seem to be the right shade of blue. The orange is a nice color to go with it… not sure of the deco used, but it’ll work, I suppose. He’s using Cybertron Red Alert’s mold with a new head. The new sculpt does make him look like a younger version of the G1 version we know. Don’t remember liking the mold all that
