Game of Thrones Review: S1E1 – “Winter is Coming”

“Winter is Coming.”

And with those three words, the stage is set for one of the most highly anticipated TV adaptations in years.  Over two years since the project was announced, almost six months since the first footage was shown on TV, HBO has finally delivered “Game of Thrones”, a ten-part series based on the first book of George R. R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series.  This fantasy epic tale was first delivered to bookstores almost fifteen years ago, and the fifth book is due this July.  The fanbase has been eagerly awaiting “A Dance with Dragons” and this new show — love for Martin’s series has never been higher, and HBO knows it has a lot of expectations to meet.

Elisabeth Sladen – 1948 – 2011

Elisabeth Sladen, best known as Sarah Jane Smith from years of work on Doctor Who, has died, according to the BBC, as well as other sources.  She was born February 1, 1948, and played The Doctor’s arguably most well-known companion for over eighty episodes of the original series, several appearances in the 2005 revival, as well as starring in the children’s show “Sarah Jane Adventures” for four seasons (a fifth is reportedly slated to air on CBBC this year, according to Wikipedia). Did you know that ASM has been to GI Joe Con?  No, probably not.  Here’s the story.  Back in 2005, JoeCon was held in Minneapolis, MN, a relatively short drive from where I live.  As it turns out, that was also the year that Fun Publications took over BotCon, and I was curious as to how the people in charge ran a convention.  Add to that a bunch of local friends who are huge Joe fans and wanted to go to the convention, and you got yourself the recipe for a good old-fashioned Road Trip.

Transformers Hall of Fame – 2011 Voting Open!
