[Mezco Toyz was kind enough to provide this report by John Charles. Enjoy!] Terror In The Toy Aisle: Chucky Returns To Toy Stores By John Charles Chucky burst onto the horror scene in 1988’s CHILD’S PLAY and has been an icon of horror ever since. During his 25 year reign, he has stared in 6 films (the latest, Curse Of Chucky, is on demand and DVD this October), guest hosted Weekend Update on SNL, presented awards at the Horror Hall Of Fame, and in perhaps one of his highest honors, hosted his own haunted house at Universal Studios. From the ASM Archives: The Birth of Online Transformers Fandom
[On this, the 20th anniversary of the creation of alt.toys.transformers, I am reposting the long article I wrote when ASM wasn’t a daily blog site. I’ve done some editting here and there, but when you read it, remember that the references to people or places are many years out of date; this was written about a decade or so ago, long before ASM had its daily blog. I never wrote articles detailing what happened after the events of this article occurred, and that’s a shame — I really should do a follow up to this piece…. Anyway, enjoy this trip into the

On Saturday, June 1st, the Joliet Public Library in Joliet, IL, hosted their annual Star Wars Day. This year’s event was again held at the Joliet Public Library, with additional displays hosted at the Joliet Historical Museum. The 501st Legion and the Rebel Legion again provided many of the displays. These displays included many screen accurate costumes and props constructed by members of these organizations. Also on hand were the R2 Builders, with a display of several droid units built by their members. Members of all organizations were on hand to answer any questions from visitors. The organizations also hosted

Or, “Where Some People Take Phil To Task” Last week, I posted my review of Star Trek Into Darkness, and then I shared it on my personal Facebook account. That started a whole discussion in the comments, with people agreeing with me and others saying I was completely wrong. Never let it be said that I won’t listen to criticism. I will quote some comments with permission and summarize others. (Again, FULL SPOILERS after the jump.)

The Chicago Swordplay Guild presented at panel at C2E2 early Saturday evening. They treated the crowd to a demonstration of their knowledge and technique in authentic European swordplay. The organization strives for historical accuracy, spending hours researching medieval documentation of the art. This research includes painstaking reading through ancient books written in Italian.

On Friday night, at Boswell Books‘ Hollow Earth event at Alverno College in Milwaukee, we were privileged to get an interview with John Barrowman and Carole Barrowman about their new book. John is a highly successful actor and entertainer both here in the United States as well as the UK. You know him from his roles as “Captain Jack Harkness” in “Doctor Who” and “Torchwood”, plus he’s just started a recurring role as the “Well Dressed Man” in The CW’s “Arrow”. Carole is an author of several books, written with John, as well as a professor of English at Alverno College. Join

We have never been at a comic convention on a Friday, so we weren’t sure how many costumes we’d see on the floor. While there weren’t as many costumers as we wanted, we did see some great work and we hope that the cosplay will kick up tomorrow when there will be more people. You can find our entire Costume Gallery for Friday by clicking this link, and we have some of the highlights below. For the full size picture, click the link above. All our C2E2 Galleries can be found here!

Well, Toy Fair 2012 wrapped up last week, and with any big show, sometimes you need a few days away from it to get a clear perspective on what you saw. So that’s what I did, and it totally was not me being lazy in writing a wrap-up post. Nope. No sir. So, now I present to you the 2012 Toy of the Fair Awards! Catchy, eh?
Continue reading2012 – The Geekly Fast Forward (Part 2)
Welcome back! In Part 1 of this 2012 preview, I talked a bunch of gibberish about the first six months of the year to come. So, since the rest of the year is even more nebulous, this should make for even more stupid talk. Let’s get to it!
