The Music of Christmas – Day 25: “Christmas Adventure”

“Christmas Adventure”
By Vince DiCola

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all!

We end our countdown today with a song by my most favorite artist. I’ve been a fan of Vince DiCola since his work on the 1986 The Transformers: The Movie. I mean, I made “Escape” my ring tone nearly fifteen years ago. I eagerly buy any new release. I’ve played a song with him. When you ask me who my musical hero is, I’ll instantly tell you it’s Vince.

I’m not sure how I first found this song.  I think I may have been doing a search and stumbled across it. It was part of a holiday compilation album called “Peace on Earth”, credited to “Angels on Earth”. I don’t remember any of the other songs at the moment, but as soon as I was able to find a copy for sale I did so.

I immediately played his track upon receipt of the CD. And instantly I was transported into my synthesizer heaven with Christmas music. Featuring an overture melody by Vince, this song melds the original music with an  interpretation of “The Little Drummer Boy”. From their it’s a reprise of one of the original themes, albeit in a 12/8 style which leads into “Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring”. Then it slows down into “Silent Night”, which then gives way to another original theme as the adventure picks up again and ends with a flourish.

I love Vince. I love his work. And I love this song. This is your-peanut-butter-in-my-chocolate mixing of two of my favorites — Vince’s work and Christmas music.  It’s his keyboard mastery with synthesizer and orchestral sounds wrapped up in the sounds of the season.

Speaking of wrapping up, this wraps up the countdown. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. Let me know your favorite holiday music at asm@asmzine.net! And next year I might talk about all-different songs. Thanks for reading!
