Human pilots have travelled thousands of miles just to study the moves POWERGLIDE executes in midair. His acrobatic aerial accomplishments impress all who see them — friend and enemy alike. His skill is the only thing that has kept him alive, since his light armor makes him a soft target for his DECEPTICON foes.

After originally appearing in Generation 1 as a Minibot, then getting supersized as an Ultra in Universe, Powerglide returns to small form as a Cyberverse Commander in the Dark of the Moon toyline. While not the same character, this new Powerglide certainly looks like an upgrade to his original Minibot. Wonder if he hates losing his Ultra size, though…

The Good
Powerglide is an awesome little robot. I had some reservations with the Cyberverse line after playing with Cyberverse Optimus Prime, but if Powerglide is representative of most of the Cyberverse toys, sign me up. He’s wonderfully complex for a small toy, and he’s beautifully designed.

One look at him and you know he’s supposed to be a direct homage to Generation one — maroon colored jet, grey limbs, pointy head. He’s got great articulation and poseability. He comes with two weapons that he can hold in either hand, or you can combine them into a giant weapon for more firepower.

His transformation is brilliant — with folding panels and rotating joints, it’s elegant without being frustrating. Everything fits together as it should, and no steps seem counter-intuitive.

His aerial mode instantly reminds you again of his 1985 counterpart, but there’s just so much more bulk to this toy than he had 25 years ago. The silver highlights stand out, and you can attach his weapons for maximum firepower.

The Bad
I only have two complaints about Powerglide. First, I have yet to figure out how to clip on the combined weapon mode onto his robot arm. The instructions show that it can attach, but danged if I can figure it out. I don’t know if it’s a mold issue (I’ve heard reports of some Powerglides coming with misformed weapons) or a user error. Probably the latter.

In plane mode, Powerglide has fold-down landing gears, but he’s too backheavy for them. Rest him on his wheels, and his nose will rise up; he will not stay level without some help.

The Final Rewind
Get Powerglide. No question about it. Go to your local store, pick him up, and have fun with him. You won’t be disappointed.
