Review: “Star Wars” #1 from Dark Horse

See the preview at http://www.darkhorse.com/Comics/19-812/Star-Wars-1 So, when I walked into my local comic shop (Neptune Comics – give them a try! I don’t make money by linking them; they’re just good people.), I wasn’t sure I was going to buy “Star Wars” #1.  I knew the story — this takes place shortly after Episode IV, and it could be a continuity mess by treading in the waters of the established “Expanded Universe”.  However, after I decided to pick it up, I jokingly told the owner, “Well, they can’t screw it up any more! And they may just burn it clean

My Take on a Live-Action “Star Wars” TV Show

So, the news came out yesterday that Disney is still looking at the live-action Star Wars television series. Here’s my quick take on it. They’re going for grim and gritty.  They want to explore the “seedy underside” of that galaxy.  They want “Deadwood” in the Star Wars Universe. Listen.  The most adult/grown-up channel Disney owns is ABC.  They don’t own a Spike, or an FX, or even an AMC.  ABC. Grim and gritty is going to be sanitized a lot for ABC. Ron Moore’s attachment brings some good news, but even “Battlestar Galactica” and “Caprica” had some real clunker plotlines.  Take the bad

NYCC 2011: Hasbro Preview Night Thoughts

While ASM wasn’t at Hasbro’s Preview Night yesterday (congrats to the lucky ones who were!), that doesn’t mean we didn’t go searching the net for pictures of what was on display. Here’s a quick smattering of thoughts from me. Transformers From TFormers.com’s gallery (see it here), I think I’m most psyched about Cyberverse. I used to hate having characters in multiple size-classes. It ruined scale, plus it meant that in my completist days, I had to buy the same character over and over. Well, my completist days are over, and now I love the idea of Cyberverse. If you are

An Extremely Uncomfortable Star Wars Pack

The folks at EndorExpress.net posted a picture of a new set of Star Wars figures called the “Jedi Training Academy 5 Pack”.  This set will be sold at upcoming Star Wars Weekends at Disney World. What’s so uncomfortable about it?  It features a Jedi, three younglings… and Darth Vader. Those younglings are so doomed.
