We Remember

On this 12th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, we pause to remember those who needlessly lost their lives.  All who were and are affected are in our thoughts.  We also pause to thank all who have served our country in defense of those who wish to harm us.

Why the Funko/Super7 Partnership is Big

On Monday, Adam Pawlus tweeted the following information: Super 7 Retro expanding http://t.co/F49NnB5lgK Aliens, Terminator, BTTF, Bill & Ted, Buffy, Firefly, everything you love (not Star Wars) — Adam Pawlus (@Adam16bit) September 2, 2013 Basically, Funko and Super7 are expanding their ReAction line retro-styled action figures, and there are reports that this will include tons of new properties, including “Firefly,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” Back to the Future, and more. I retweeted Adam’s tweet with the comment, “This is big.” I meant it. Assuming this list of properties is true, this is huge, massive, ginormous news. This opens the door for

The Total Recall Remake Actually Looks… Good?

I admit it. I kinda laughed at the prospect of a remake of Total Recall. I honestly didn’t think we needed it. Sure, the original gave us such wonderful lines to quote/mock, but I felt that a remake once again was Hollywood taking the easy way out. Well, yesterday, the first official trailer hit (after a teaser trailer for the trailer was released a few days ago…. okay, then). I admit it. This looks good. I have moved this off my “See it when it comes to HBO/Netflix” list to “Might see this in the theaters.”

Happy New Year!  Okay, so it’s a few days past New Year’s, but really, we’re only about 1% of the way through the year; that’s not too much time to have passed.  This year is shaping up to be another banner year for geekly stuff, but it’s hard to keep it all straight.  So that’s where ASM comes in — to continue making it hard to make sense of it all.  This list is not all-encompassing, nor do I make any claims as to its accuracy.  Consider it just some ruminations on the year ahead. Let’s dive in!

Knee-Jerk Reactions to DC Comics Revamping Everything

Here are some thoughts I’ve had, just some knee-jerk initial reactions to the whole “DC Universe is revamping all titles” news that just came out.  See these links for more information: http://www.usatoday.com/life/comics/2011-05-31-dc-comics-reinvents_n.htm and http://www.newsarama.com/comics/DC-Universe-Reboot-Announcement-110531.html . Wait, what? So, Action Comics and Detective Comics — two titles with issue numbers close or over 900 — are now going to be restarted at #1?  SO SORRY, DETECTIVE COMICS, NO #900 FOR YOU. Wait, what?

From the ASM Archives: A Little Q&A With Bob Budiansky

In honor of Bob Budiansky’s induction into the Transformers Hall of Fame at BotCon last week, we’re reposting one of the first interviews Bob ever conducted with the online fandom.  This originally appeared in ASM on July 26, 2004.  This interview was conducted by Matthew Karpowich and Andrew Sorohan. ASM: You started your comics career in the mid-70s with a background in engineering. Given that, who were your influences? Artistically? Writing-wise? Bob Budiansky:While I was in college in the early 70s, I was reintroduced to comics by a couple of friends. (I had stopped collecting comics years earlier.) So, at
