“The Star Wars” #1 Preview on StarWars.com

The official Star Wars website has posted a preview of “The Star Wars #1”.  Go.  Click that link.  Look at the pages.  Then come back here.

Wow.  I love this stuff.  This and “Star Wars Rebels” are two of the big Star Wars projects I’m eagerly anticipating.  (The third is Episode VII, naturally.)  I’m a sucker for Ralph McQuarrie’s concept artwork, so   “Rebels” ticks all the right boxes in the artwork we’ve seen so far.

“The Star Wars”, though, not only fulfills my McQuarrie love but also my love for behind-the-scenes info.  I love the little minutia you find out about on DVD extras.  I love J. W. Rinzler’s behind-the-scenes books on the original Trilogy, so the fact that he’s writing this new series is the cherry on top of this alternate Star Wars sundae.  That analogy breaks down, I know, but go with me here.  These character designs are straight out of the concept art for “Star Wars”; we’ve seen them as drawings, paintings, and even concept figures from Hasbro, but now we’re seeing them in the story that George Lucas initially dreamed.  Jedi-Bendu vs. the Knights of the Sith.  Annikin Starkiller is the main character, Luke is a general.  It’s familiar but completely different.

I can’t wait.

“The Star Wars” #1 debuts September 4; I’ve embedded their preview trailer below.
