In honor of the new Marvel/Paramount movie THOR, I decided it was worth reviewing a Thor toy! But which one? After scouring the aisles at a local Target, I chose Lightning Clash Thor. Why? Well, it has a light-up hammer. Light up toys are cool. But was it worth the money? Read on!

Lightning Clash Thor was made for one reason only — to have a light-up hammer. If that floats your boat, then by all means, pick this up. Otherwise, this is a nice $8 statue. Seriously, this toy is supposed to be made for playing with, but really, once the novelty of a light-up hammer wears off, you’ll throw him on a shelf, or in your closet and forget about him.

The Good

The sculpt is nice, to be sure. Hasbro did a bang-up job with capturing Chris Hemsworth’s likeness. The cape is plastic but sculpted to look like it’s blowing in the wind. The light-up hammer is nice — press down on Thor’s neck, and a yellow/orange light illuminates Mjolnir.

The Bad

But that’s it. Because of the light-up feature, the hammer can’t be removed from Thor’s hand. You have articulation at both shoulders, the hips, and you can rotate the head around the neck. But there’s no elbow, knee or ankle articulation. The neck is longer than what it should be because of the electronics. And the cape? Well, it comes off. Woo. I think the electronics took up most of the budget, leaving little room for articulation, making this a 3.75″ statue.

The Final Rewind
So, yeah, if you want a light-up Mjolnir, this is your toy. If you don’t mind having something that’s good only for dioramas or shelf display, then, sure, go ahead and get this. If, however, you want an actual toy you can play with rather than a $7 statue, go find a different toy, because there’s nothing here that’ll keep you interested for more than 10 minutes tops.
