The Music of Christmas – Day 3: “Silver Bells”

“Overture: Silver Bells” By Gloria Estefan As I alluded to in day 1, many years ago, I realized a few things about my musical tastes, or, more precisely, what songs that I like usually contain. I don’t necessarily love full songs, sometimes. I know that there are songs that I don’t really care for, except there will be this one little bit that I’ll absolutely love. Or there may be a song that the reason I love it is because the musician does a certain chord progression in the live version but not the studio version. “Overture: Silver Bells” has

The Music of Christmas – Day 2: “Winter Wonderland”

“Winter Wonderland” By America As I mentioned yesterday, today’s choice, “Winter Wonderland”, is a song I have a distinct memory of listening to in my childhood, on a “Sesame Street” Christmas record, no less. I remember the song being cut off after the first verse, because Oscar hated it. Well, darn it, Oscar, I liked it! Why’d you have to stop Big Bird from singing it? Ahem. “The Music of Christmas” By Steven Curtis Chapman Nearly fifteen years ago, I started writing this exact same musical exploration on LiveJournal. The song that inspired that journey was first in the list, and it’s the same today — “The Music of Christmas” by Steven Curtis Chapman. I first heard this song over twenty years ago, when a brand new radio station started broadcasting. While they waited to debut their true format, they played Christmas music 24/7, and I enjoyed it so much, I made it one of my presets on my car radio. This was one of the songs

The Music of Christmas – The Prelude

Ah, it’s the holiday season. Everywhere you look, people are getting ready for their holiday celebration — or multiple holidays and/or celebrations. One of the things I love about the holidays is the music. I’m a big fan of Christmas music… within reason. I used think it was a bit ludicrous for radio stations to flip to their 24/7 Christmas music format before Thanksgiving, but it’s 2020, time is meaningless, so hey, radio stations playing holiday music in mid-November? Sure, why not? That aside, now that it’s December, I can truly enjoy the music of the season. So each day
