The Music of Christmas – Day 3: “Silver Bells”

“Overture: Silver Bells” By Gloria Estefan As I alluded to in day 1, many years ago, I realized a few things about my musical tastes, or, more precisely, what songs that I like usually contain. I don’t necessarily love full songs, sometimes. I know that there are songs that I don’t really care for, except there will be this one little bit that I’ll absolutely love. Or there may be a song that the reason I love it is because the musician does a certain chord progression in the live version but not the studio version. “Overture: Silver Bells” has

The Music of Christmas – Day 2: “Winter Wonderland”

“Winter Wonderland” By America As I mentioned yesterday, today’s choice, “Winter Wonderland”, is a song I have a distinct memory of listening to in my childhood, on a “Sesame Street” Christmas record, no less. I remember the song being cut off after the first verse, because Oscar hated it. Well, darn it, Oscar, I liked it! Why’d you have to stop Big Bird from singing it? Ahem. Anyway, this arrangement of “Winter Wonderland” is by the band America. I first heard this version about five days prior to my initial trial at writing about Christmas music — seriously. I had

The Music of Christmas – Day 1: “The Music of Christmas”

“The Music of Christmas” By Steven Curtis Chapman Nearly fifteen years ago, I started writing this exact same musical exploration on LiveJournal. The song that inspired that journey was first in the list, and it’s the same today — “The Music of Christmas” by Steven Curtis Chapman. I first heard this song over twenty years ago, when a brand new radio station started broadcasting. While they waited to debut their true format, they played Christmas music 24/7, and I enjoyed it so much, I made it one of my presets on my car radio. This was one of the songs

The Music of Christmas – The Prelude

Ah, it’s the holiday season. Everywhere you look, people are getting ready for their holiday celebration — or multiple holidays and/or celebrations. One of the things I love about the holidays is the music. I’m a big fan of Christmas music… within reason. I used think it was a bit ludicrous for radio stations to flip to their 24/7 Christmas music format before Thanksgiving, but it’s 2020, time is meaningless, so hey, radio stations playing holiday music in mid-November? Sure, why not? That aside, now that it’s December, I can truly enjoy the music of the season. So each day

More Than Meets The Ears with Transformers Music News

Over the past week, Transformers fans have had not one, not two, but three announcements regarding TF-related music. First, Hasbro and Sony released a new album Transformers Roll Out last week to coincide with Record Store Day.  This new album contains tracks inspired by the continuous battles of the Autobots and Decepticons and features rock, alternative, and alt-pop artists, including Beck, Elle Rae, and Crash Kings.  The press release is at the end of the post. It’s an interesting idea, to be sure.  I’ve not been a huge fan of “inspired-by” albums.  Usually, I stick to the actual music from

It Is The Year 2014… and I’m Listening To New Vince DiCola Music

Sure, it’s been almost 30 years since the original animated The Transformers: The Movie appeared in theaters, and it’s been almost 30 years since the Transformers fandom was introduced to the music of Vince DiCola. It’s nice to know that even now, well past the future of 2005, we can still get new Transformers music from Vince.  He announced a few months ago that Sony/Intrada would be releasing a new version of the score from the movie (the first time it would be available in full outside of the BotCon CDs), due out sometime this month.  But what if you
