I’m a sucker for a story that starts out with our protagonist caught in the middle of some mess then then flashes back to show how she/he got into said mess. (See: “Alias”, Mission Impossible: 3, numerous other shows and stories.) That being said, this is how Brain Boy #1 starts: I love it. Right away we see our hero — for lack of a better word — strapped to a chair, guns pointed at him, and he says he has his enemies where he wants them? Fred Van Lente doesn’t waste time hooking us with what appears to be an implausible statement. Of

With The Star Wars #1, J. W. Rinzler and Mike Mayhew take us to a time and place they call “Longer ago, in a galaxy either further away.” Adapted from the original screenplay by George Lucas, this comic shows what might have been if Lucas’s original plans hadn’t been altered by several revisions of the script. What we know as Star Wars: A New Hope started life as The Star Wars, a tale of Jedi-Bendu vs. the Knights of Sith, as the New Empire had hunted down the architects of the Imperial Space Force. You’ll notice similar themes and characters — Luke, Leia, Jedi,

The official Star Wars website has posted a preview of “The Star Wars #1”. Go. Click that link. Look at the pages. Then come back here. Wow. I love this stuff. This and “Star Wars Rebels” are two of the big Star Wars projects I’m eagerly anticipating. (The third is Episode VII, naturally.) I’m a sucker for Ralph McQuarrie’s concept artwork, so “Rebels” ticks all the right boxes in the artwork we’ve seen so far. “The Star Wars”, though, not only fulfills my McQuarrie love but also my love for behind-the-scenes info. I love the little minutia you find
