- Was the huge empty space inside the Clone Wars Y-Wing meant to be used as figure and/or accessory storage, and the bar it has in the middle meant to evoke a carry handle? It looks like it was meant to transport characters in both play and real life.
- One of our readers recently picked up the old Power of the Force 2 Death Star mini-playsets and found himself very amused by the pretty blatantly tacked-on missile launchers and the 12-inch-scale Rebel
Trooper blaster turned into artillery. While the team who worked on those playsets may no longer work for Hasbro, we can’t help but wonder — is this the kind of thing that the Star Wars team is trying to AVOID doing when it comes to vehicles and such? Instead, the team will only use those kind of huge gimmicks where it makes sense, rather than try and make a “Jabba’s XTREEEM Attack Barge” deal?
- The Y-Wing wasn’t meant to function as a storage case, but in effect that’s what the engine space became. Since there was so much of it, we decided to make it at least hold whatever you could put inside.
- You are right, in that this sort of approach doesn’t really match where we are going with aesthetics and function. Though we will take liberties when it’s warranted, we prefer that we match actual reference when possible, and when we go “offscreen” we would rather the design be as seamless as it it were on screen. This leaves little room for some of the older tactics we may have employed to save on tooling dollars.
