Hasbro Star Wars Q&A – February 2010

Hasbro’s Star Wars team has once again answered your questions!  Read more for the latest information.

  • Now that you’ve confirmed (via Galactic Hunter) that a new AT-AT is coming out (and will be seen at Toy Fair), we have a question regarding large vehicles. What kind of unique challenges have you had to solve to
create the large-scale Star Wars vehicles like the Millennium Falcon and the AT-AT?

The biggest challenge, believe it or not, has been trying to anticipate the larger macroeconomic challenges that are at work to either present or close opportunities for the high-end vehicles. This year, we had the 30th Anniversary of EpV to help justify the higher price point that a vehicle
like this truly needs. Next year, and beyond, it’s going to be a little more difficult to maintain that higher price point unless there is significant entertainment support for a new vehicle. There is no shortage of vehicles we would like to do, but retailers need to believe that demand will be there for $100+ vehicles and kids need to feel that these are vehicles that they can’t live without because they get excited about them from seeing them over and over in Clone Wars. Both of these have been challenges for us, and will continue to be the biggest issues we face going forward with the large-scale vehicles.

  • Is there any chance of build-a-droid multipacks, like a battle pack with the parts for four protocol droids or five astromechs? It could be a great way to get BAD versions of Artoo and Threepio out there with some extra kid-friendly play value.
We have though about something like this, but haven’t pulled the trigger.  It does sound like a fun idea and we will be exploring some ideas like this for the future. Thanks for the suggestion.
