“Christmas Vacation”
By Yacht Rock Revue

“National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” is one of my favorite holiday movies. It’s funny and poignant, and many people can find something to relate to in this story about how the holidays drive people.

The theme for the movie, “Christmas Vacation” by , instantly brings to mind the trials and tribulations of Clark and Ellen Griswold and their family. But this version, by Yacht Rock Revue, puts a great spin on a great song.

YRR is known for covering the great smooth rock songs of 70’s and 80’s, and they replicate the sound with great success. I first heard this cover on an episode of Coverville, a podcast dedicated to cover songs; it’s linked at the top.

This is “Christmas Vacation” like you’ve never heard it before… Except it’s extremely familiar. From what sounds like the BeeGees and Michael McDonald to the riff from Toto’s Rosanna mashed up with this holiday classic, it puts a huge smile on my face. It’s a style (or styles) you wouldn’t expect to hear but it works fantastically.

For someone who loves “Christmas Vacation” AND loves 70’s grooves, this is a peanut-butter-in-my-chocolate match made in musical heaven.  Too bad I can’t find a video for it.
