“O Come All Ye Faithful”
By Twisted Sister
I’m not a metal kind of guy. When someone says “That’s so metal” it’s not me they are referring to.
Yet, I have a soft spot for Twisted Sister, and I don’t know why. I loved “We’re Not Gonna Take It” as a kid. Loved the song, loved the video. It’s iconic and a true 80’s anthem.
So when I first heard this version of “O Come All Ye Faithful”, I instantly loved it. It’s basically a mashup of the Christmas song and the rock anthem, and it just works. The same melody, the same guitar solo, the same drums — you think you’re gonna hear the classic song and then boom, it’s Christmas. Frontman Dee Snyder himself said “We’re Not Gonna Take It” basically borrows the chord progression from the holiday classic, and it’s evident by how smoothly the two go together.
I’m not sure how I got introduced to this song. It may have been a free download. It may have been on the radio. It may have been on a podcast. However I first heard it, I’m glad I did because it’s now a perennial favorite.
It’s just a fun song. It’s loud, it’s brash, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.
Tomorrow – it’s the festival of lights
