The Music of Christmas – The Prelude

Ah, it’s the holiday season. Everywhere you look, people are getting ready for their holiday celebration — or multiple holidays and/or celebrations.

One of the things I love about the holidays is the music. I’m a big fan of Christmas music… within reason. I used think it was a bit ludicrous for radio stations to flip to their 24/7 Christmas music format before Thanksgiving, but it’s 2020, time is meaningless, so hey, radio stations playing holiday music in mid-November? Sure, why not?

That aside, now that it’s December, I can truly enjoy the music of the season. So each day between now and Christmas, I’m going to write something about a holiday song. While this series will last 25 days, expect a few days with multiple songs based on a theme, so it’ll be more than 25 songs.

Now, this list is not in any particular order; this is not a “Top 25 (Or So) List”. I fully expect your musical tastes to differ from mine, and I fully expect a couple of these to be down right embarassing. But this is my list, not yours, so tough.

Also, these won’t all be songs I love. Oh no. There will be some awful songs on this list.

And if you used to follow me on LiveJournal, you’ll find this familiar. But I never finished that list, and things have changed in the nearly fifteen years since I wrote it.

As I scan over the list, many traditional songs are represented in one form or another, but very few of them are the traditional arrangements. For the most part, none of the songs are repeated, but of the ones that are, well, that’s why we have bonus days of more than one song. There are a few parodies and comedy songs in here, too, as well as a medley or two. And, there are a few songs that are guilty pleasures of mine; I fully expect to get some ribbing on these.

Got all that? Good.

So join me as I present – The Music of Christmas.

Coming later today — the song that inspired this all.
